With the holidays around the corner, I decide to put together a tutorial for a project that has been quite popular with my customers this fall. I first created this project for a wedding gift that I needed back in September. I don't recall where I first saw it, but after I finished, I was quite captivated by how simple it was but how elegant it became. I decided that I would teach this in November and then create tutorial for everyone..so here it is!
First, so you can envision it, here is the finished sample:
You need to start with a half sheet of cardstock, cut the long way...so 4 1/4" x 11". Then you score it at 3", 5 1/2", and 8" like this:
Stamp as desired. Then you need to fold it in half and then fold it back on itself, creating a bit of a "W" with the inside of the "w" a little bit shorter than the outside edges:
Next, apply adhesive along the edges of one of the inside sides of the "W". You can see where I have applied the sticky strip in this next photo:
Sticky Strip really works the best for a nice strong hold. Be sure to only put it on the edges as shown, or you won't be able to slide your gift card in place! Once you've adhered it together, it should look like this:
Next, you need to take the Word Window punch and punch an opening in the fold. You want to line the edge of the punch up with the edge of the cardstock, and then slide the punch OFF the edge of the cardstock just a little bit. I only punch about half the width of the punch as shown here:
Repeat on the opposite side in the same way. Then you can use the 1/2" circle punch if you'd like and punch a small notch in the middle. You could also use a square punch if you don't have the Word Window punch. It should look something like this:
The gift card slides into the opening and then you can close the front and back cover. Embellish the front and tie it with a ribbon to complete it. Here is the finished sample again:
Also, here is the holder that I had originally made for the wedding gift:
And, you can see in this picture how the gift card slides right inside:
Have fun creating these little gift card holders. If you like what you come up with, send me pictures, and I'd be happy to post them for everybody to enjoy.
Also, Stampin' Up! will be announcing a Holiday Extravaganza sale that runs from November 26-December 1. Be sure to watch the website and your inboxes for the details.
Happy Stamping!
