October 2013 Virtual Class

It's time to share with you the projects for my October Virtual Class.  But first, a reminder of how this works.

To participate in the virtual class, you need to place an order online using the special hostess code by October 21st.  Your order can be any size, but for every $25 you spend, your name will go into a drawing to win the hostess benefits from the orders.  Your order will ship out to you immediately.

Then, by October 26th, I will put a packet in the mail to you containing the materials for three cards, including supply lists and instructions.  Everything will be pre-stamped, punched and run through the Big Shot and will be ready for you to put together.  All you will need is adhesive.  I will also email you the links to private videos showing you how to put the cards together.

I can hear you now!  "Michelle...what's up with the last card?" Well....part of the fun of a class is the element of surprise and having the cards you will make revealed to you only when you attend the class.  So...I've decided that I will be leaving the third card a mystery.  I will give you a hint though...it will be a Christmas card and you're going to love it!

Snowflake Card

Last week I had a class, and one of my customers asked me about making a card out of the snowflake framelits.  She'd see one on a blog and wanted to know how to do it.

I took my framelits out and worked one up while they were creating their cards. (Good thing my classes are at my house!)

Here's a shot a little more straight on so you can see the front better:

Stamps: Festive Flurry bundle (including Framelits) and Tags 4 You bundle (including Label Bracket punch)

Card stock: Whisper White and Soft Sky

Ink: Midnight Muse and Soft Sky

Accessories: Big Shot, Envelope punch board, 2 way glue pen, Gold and Silver glitter, Stampin' Dimensionals

Isn't is just the cutest? You make this by placing the largest framelit so that the top edge is hanging over the fold.  After you run it through, you'll have your outline cut out up to the fold line to create your card.

Once I got going, I just couldn't stop myself from embellishing! It's not a huge card, but it would be perfect to go with neighbor gifts or for coworkers.  Just a small greeting that you can hand deliver to let somebody know you're thinking of them at the holidays.

Of course a special card like this needs it's own envelope! Good thing I've got the Envelope Punch Board to help me create one that will fit just right. You can see the video I made on how to use it in this post here

Zoo Babies Gift Box

My cousin and his wife are expecting their first baby, a boy, in about a month.  Over the weekend, there was a baby shower for them.

I purchased some clothing and a toy and I wanted a fun way to wrap them.  I decided to create my own gift box:

Didn't it come out cute?!  I was so pleased and it really was quite easy!  

I started with two 12x12 pieces of card stock.  This one happened to be some Confetti White that I still had hanging around.  I trimmed just a hair (probably 1/16") off of two sides on one sheet so that the bottom would be slightly smaller than the top.  Then I stamped them all over using images from the Zoo Babies set in Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango, Gumball Green, Daffodil Delight and Baked Brown Sugar.  I added the splotches from the Gorgeous Grunge set in Soft Sky and Daffodil Delight.

Next, I took out my Simply Scored Tool.  I scored both sheets of card stock at, I think, 2 1/2" (can't quite remember!) on all four sides.  Then, I trimmed both scores lines on two opposite sides up to the score line running perpendicular.  Finally, fold and secure with Sticky Strip.

Then it was time to decorate the top.  I created the bow using the Gift Bow die from the Holiday Catalog and the Pacific Point paper from the Brights Designer Series Paper stack.  I cut a 1 3/4" strip from what was left and I attached it just to the top of the box.  That way she could open the box without destroying the "wrapping".  Finally, I added a tag made with the Chalk Talk framelits.

My cousin's wife loved the box (and the gift inside!), and I'm looking forward to meeting this little munchkin!

New Photopolymer Set: Bite Me!

If you are one who really likes Halloween, then you are going to love this one!  Even though Stampin' Up JUST released two photopolymer sets last week, they just released ANOTHER one.  That's three sets for September!

Festive Flurry Christmas card

You can never have too many Christmas ideas, can you?  Well, here's another one for you.  This is a card we did in my Stamp a Stack class last week and everybody loved it!

This card utilizes not one, but TWO, of the fabulous bundles available in the holiday catalog this year.  Snowflakes are beautiful, but they are so much easier to use when you quickly cut them out with a coordinating framelits set, aren't they?  And I have gotten so much use out of the Label Bracket punch.  It is such a fun design, and the four piece Tags 4 You set complements so many cards so well.

Make Magnificent Fall Card with Magnificent Maple

Fall is definitely here.  The warm days and cool nights.  It won't be long before we start seeing those beautiful fall colors on the trees.

Here's a card I made with the new Magnificent Maple stamp from the Holiday catalog:

Stamps: Magnificent Maple and Express Yourself (hostess set)

Card stock: Cajun Craze, Early Espresso and Very Vanilla

Ink: Cajun Craze, Early Espresso and Crushed Curry

Accessories: Big Shot, Window Framelits, Sponge Dauber, Chevron Border Punch and Stampin' Dimensionals

This card also features the Chevron Border punch from the Holiday catalog.  Instead of using what I punched on the card, I chose to use the pieces that were punched out as the accent.  I think it really adds a bit of fun texture to this card.  Another tip is that I stamped the leaf in Cajun Craze and then I just used a sponge dauber to add a little bit of color to it.  Super quick and easy!

Two new Photopolymer sets!

A couple of days ago, Stampin' Up! released not one, but two new photopolymer sets.  If you haven't given them a try yet, you really ought to!  They are really amazing. When you stamp with them, you get a nice clean image and because they are totally clear, you can see well for easily placement.

Getting ready for Christmas with the Christmas Star

We're closing in on the middle of September and I don't know about you, but, I still haven't settled on a design for my Christmas cards.  I'm going to try to share several in the days and weeks going forward to help you with that all important decision!

This first one is a card we are making at my Stamp a Stack class tomorrow night.  It features two of the single stamps that were released last month.

Stamps: Christmas Star and Prince of Peace

This is a super easy card that would be simple to make in large quantities.  I added up the cost of the materials to make this card.  If you already had the Big Shot and the Framelits, then the stamps, ink and paper, plus a package of envelopes would cost $66.65 and would make 48 cards with card stock left over.  That's $1.39 for each beautiful, hand made card!  If you need to also purchase the framelits, then the total goes up to $95.47, but, of course, you also have the framelits (as well as the stamps) to use on other projects.

Bridal Shower card

A couple of weeks ago, I had a bridal shower to attend.  I don't often get a chance to make wedding cards, so this was a fun change of pace!

Here's the card I designed for the shower:

I really had fun putting this card together.  Weddings are usually fairly elegant, and it gave me a chance to explore a style of stamping I don't typically do.
