April Paper Pumpkin: So Cool

The April Paper Pumpkin kits were delayed a bit this month, but mine finally arrived today and it was definitely worth the wait. You guys...these cards are so stinkin' cute!  I honestly wasn't sure what to expect when Stampin' Up said that the cards in this kit were designed with the intention that kids could help put them together, but I love them!  The colors are amazing.  The sentiments are useful.  And the shapes are just adorable.  What's not to love!

I definitely shouldn't have doubted Stampin' Up.  They know how to create great kits.  Next month's kit is a baseball themed kit designed to help us send warm wishes to the All Stars in our lives.  Subscribe by May 10 to make sure you don't miss it!

This video is a little longer than my standard Minute to Make It videos, but it is just filled with sneak peeks of new products, and I didn't think you'd mind!  The Hand-Penned Petals is one of our new floral sets.  It has an accompanying set of dies, but I chose not to use them on this card.  In addition, this card has four out of five of the new In Colors.  I used three of them when I colored in the flowers and the last one when I stamped the sentiment.  Finally, the Genial Gems are a new addition to our embellishments line.

My nephew recently had a birthday, and when I sat down to make him a card, I didn't have a lot of time.  This is the the card that I created.  It is fairly simple, but looks more complicated than it is.  One of my favorite things to do with my stamps is to create an all-over background.  The So Much Happy set has several images that work really well for this technique. All you need is few good colors and you are off and running!  The So Much Happy set is retiring on May 3, so you'll want to get it now while you can.

Learn to Stamp: Watercolor Pencil Background

Materials:

    Stamps: Rooted in Nature

    Ink: Old Olive and Early Espresso

    Card stock:

        Daffodil Delight: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"

        Old Olive: 5 1/4" x 4"

        In Good Taste Designer Series Paper: 5 1/8" x 2 1/2"

        Watercolor Paper: 2 1/2" x 3 3/4"

        Whisper White: 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" and 2" x 2"

    Accessories: Nature's Root Dies, Stitched Shapes Dies, Watercolor Pencils, Water Painters, Braided Linen Trim and Stampin' Dimensionals

In this Learn to Stamp video, I show you how to create a watercolor background using the Watercolor Pencils:

 

I don't know about you, but I always love when I find a new way to create a background! Today's background is super easy and has lots of possibilities.  Using the Watercolor Pencils, color strips of color on to a piece of Watercolor paper and then blend using the Water Painters.  I do recommend that you use Watercolor paper for this technique as your paper will get fairly wet.  The watercolor paper also helps the colors to blend a bit better since the water doesn't absorb into the paper before it can spread the color.  Finally, I have several retiring products on this card, including the Rooted in Nature set and coordinating dies, the Stitched Shape Framelits and the Braided Linen Trim.

The Butterfly Gala set is one that came out a few years ago.  I used it a lot when it was first released, but I haven't done a lot with it lately.  It really is a great stamp set, and I have fun creating this card with it.  Unfortunately, it is slated to retire on May 3.  There are several other products on this card that will be retiring as well, including both embossing folders, the punch and the ribbon.  Don't miss the opportunity to get them while you can!

I don't know about you, but that beautiful weather we had last weekend got me thinking about ice cream! The Sweet Ice Cream bundle is perfect for sending sweet birthday wishes and conjuring up visions of warm, summer days.  There is actually very little stamping on this card; only the sentiment is stamped.  I created the ice cream cones by punching different pieces of designer series paper and then layered them all together on the punched circle to create my focal point.

Michelle's Color Inspiration #3

Today's color combo comes from a card that I posted a couple of months ago. Like most color combinations the look of the card can really change depending on what color is most prominent.  In this card, the Real Red words stand out the most which makes the overall look feel heavier than if I'd used the red on say just one of the flowers.  What if I'd done the words in Blushing Bride?  How do you think that would have changed the look?  It's fun to think about!
