Paper Pumpkin October 2022: Ho Ho Ho kit

The Christmas kits are always some of my favorite Paper Pumpkin kits.  The October Ho Ho Ho kit was definitely a fun one.  This kit had it all: fun colors, whimsical images and fantastic sentiments.  I had a great time putting together the samples as they were designed and I'm looking forward to taking time to play with the kit a bit more when I create my alternates.

With all the Christmas stamp sets that we've had over the years, I don't recall ever having a large candy cane.  Small ones, yes, but not candy canes sized to make a statement.  In the Sweet Candy Canes set, we have not one, but two candy canes, and they are facing opposite directions so that you can pair them up.  The other fun tidbit on this card, is that I used the Pearlized Enamel Effects to create my own embellishments.  I squeezed a little out on my Silicone Mat and then left it to dry.  Once it was completely dry, I peeled it off and placed it on a glue dot to attach to the card.

For today's #SimpleStamping Friday card, I pulled the Decorated with Happiness set back out.  I've used this set for #SimpleStamping before, and I think it is because it just lends itself so well. The images are bold and whimsical, and there is a nice variety of them which allows you to combine them in multiple ways.  This particular layout is a great #SimpleStamping layout.  It looks good, but it is still just stamps, ink and paper.

Here in Maine, we had a pretty big storm with high winds and lots of rain on Friday which knocked a lot of our leaves off the trees.  Before that, though, we had some beautiful colors and this card really captures that autumn feel.  One think I like about the Cottage Wreaths set is that the wreath is a distinctive stamp, and so you get multiple layers of color just by stamping it.  Those layers real give the image some depth and help it to look a bit more realistic. From there, it is simple matter to add a few decorations on the wreath, and within the set, you have options from fall to Halloween to Christmas.  Got to love a set with versatility!

Today's card is another one using the Lights Aglow Designer Series Paper.  I can't stop using it! It is just so pretty.  For this card, I paired it with the Christmas Banner Dies and die cut the evergreen from the Glimmer Specialty paper.  I love how the evergreen shimmers along with the gold in the paper.  The Gold Satin Edged Ribbon nicely finishes off the effect.  This is a fairly simple card, but It packs a lot of wow.

It seems that people send fewer and fewer cards for special occasions, opting instead for digital messages. This card features two products that I initially passed over but with which I have since fallen in love.  The first is the Fond of Autumn bundle.  You can choose to either die cut the large image as a whole or to use the die that will cut it into its component parts.  I love the versatility!  The other product is the Split Card Textures Dies.  There are only two dies in this package, but, boy, do they pack a visual punch.  Although these dies are currently unavailable, they should be back in stock next week.  Be sure to check them out!

I've got another family birthday card to share with you today.  My niece turned eleven a couple of weeks ago, and this was the card I created for her.  As I was looking over my stamps, trying to decide which set to use, my eyes lit on the Dragonfly Garden and the concept of stamping on vellum and coloring the back came to mind.  I haven't done that in while and it is a really cool look which lends itself well to the dragonflies.  One tip I would tell you is to make sure that the Memento ink is completely dry on the vellum before you try to color it.  Because the vellum isn't as porous as regular card stock, it takes longer to dry. I actually used my heat tool to speed up the drying time.

I love creating elaborate cards just as much as the next person, but I also really love it when I can let my paper do all the work.  In this case, for today's #SimpleStamping Friday card, I let the vellum do the work.  For this card, I used a piece of the Snowflake Specialty Vellum and I made that the background.  The snowflakes on this vellum are embossed and also have an iridescent shine to them.  All that the card really needed was a simple sentiment.  In fact, if I added much more, it would make the card too busy.  What is your favorite way to let the paper do the work?
